One ⭐ board per server highlights public messages when they reach a configurable minimum of human reactions.

Counting stars

Headless watches ⭐ when someone adds, removes, or clears that reaction after the board is configured. The message author and bot accounts do not count; unique users are counted. The default threshold is 3, and accepted values range from 1 to 100. Enabling Starboard does not backfill earlier reactions.

.starboard threshold

Posting and synchronization

At the threshold, Headless posts an embed with the message text, author, timestamp, and a link to the original. Changes to the count update that embed. If the count falls below the threshold, Headless deletes its board post but keeps the source message. Attachments are not copied.

Configuration and permissions

Configuration requires the Discord Manage Server permission. Headless needs:
  • In source channels: View Channel and Read Message History.
  • In the destination: View Channel, Read Message History, Send Messages, and Embed Links. Message history lets Headless fetch and synchronize existing board posts.
Only text channels visible to @everyone are supported; private channels and threads are not read. Configuration and post IDs are stored per server in PostgreSQL.
If a source channel stops being visible to @everyone, Headless removes its saved Starboard copy even if the feature is disabled. It needs View Channel and Read Message History in the destination to delete it; if those permissions are missing, staff must remove the post manually.
1

Choose a destination

Use a public text channel that is not a source channel. Grant Headless the read and posting permissions listed above.
2

Enable Starboard

Run .starboard channel #highlights. Headless saves the channel and enables the feature for this server.
3

Set the threshold

The default is three. To change it, use an integer from 1 to 100, for example .starboard threshold 5.
4

Test the full lifecycle

Add ⭐ to a public message until it reaches the threshold; check the source link, then remove reactions to confirm the embed updates and disappears below the minimum.

Changes and disabling

Changing the destination affects new posts. Existing entries continue to update in their recorded channel and are not moved automatically. A threshold change applies when another reaction event arrives for a message. .starboard off stops synchronization and keeps existing posts.
Headless supports one ⭐ board per server. Multiple boards, alternate emojis, channel/role/member filters, self-starring, temporary locking, and custom formatting are not available.
Attachments are not reposted. If a message has no text, the embed tells readers to open the original. Private channels and threads are not processed.
Embed text is limited to 3,800 characters; longer source text is truncated with an ellipsis. The link opens the full original message.
If Headless loses access to the source message, the event does not create or change an entry. If the board post no longer exists, a later qualifying event may create it again.

.starboard off

Note: .stars is also accepted as an alias for the root command. Settings apply only to the server where you run the command.
