# Permissions

> Review Discord permissions for the bot and members before enabling music controls.

## Permissions by actor

* **Headless Music** — **Requirement:** View Channel, Connect, and Speak · **Why:** Read channel context, join voice, and stream audio.
* **Member** — **Requirement:** Access to a voice channel · **Why:** Playback commands use the invoking member's voice channel.
* **Server administrator** — **Requirement:** Manage Server · **Why:** Required by `/247`, `/announce`, `/buttons`, and `/customize`.
* **Music service** — **Requirement:** Configured Lavalink connection · **Why:** Lavalink resolves tracks and plays audio.

## Voice channel and controls

Most playback and queue-changing controls require the person to be in the same voice channel as the bot. Queries such as `/queue` and `/nowplaying` can inspect the active player without that condition.

## Audio runtime

Playback requires a configured and available Lavalink connection.
