# Getting Started

> Invite Headless, check its access, and try the basic commands. The Dashboard is optional when you are getting started.

## Invite Headless

Open the [official Headless site](https://headlesslabs.xyz/) and authorize installation in the intended server. Discord shows the requested permissions before you confirm.

## Check permissions and hierarchy

Confirm Headless can view the channels you will use and has the permissions required by the module. For moderation or role assignment, move the Headless role above the roles it needs to manage.

## Test help and connectivity

In a channel Headless can access, use `.help` to open the catalog and `.ping` to check its Discord connection. You can also open the public Commands page for the current registry.

### `.help`

```headless-command Syntax theme={null}
.help [section]
```

```headless-command Example theme={null}
.help
```

### `.ping`

```headless-command Syntax theme={null}
.ping
```

```headless-command Example theme={null}
.ping
```

## Use your server prefix

Examples use `.` as the global prefix; each server can use another one. `.prefix set <new>` requires `Administrator` and accepts up to five characters; you can also check or change it with `/prefix`. Sign in to the Dashboard with Discord when you want to manage settings on the web; only servers authorized for your account appear.

### `.prefix`

```headless-command Syntax theme={null}
.prefix
```

```headless-command Example theme={null}
.prefix
```

### `/prefix`

```headless-command Syntax theme={null}
/prefix [new_prefix:<new_prefix>]
```

```headless-command Example theme={null}
/prefix
```

Also works: `/prefix new_prefix:!`

### `.prefix set`

```headless-command Syntax theme={null}
.prefix set <new_prefix>
```

```headless-command Example theme={null}
.prefix set !
```

> [!NOTE]
>
> `Administrator` is the user's permission for changing the prefix; Headless stores it per server. If you only want to test the bot, `.help`, `.ping`, and `.prefix` do not configure modules or publish panels.

## Steps

**1. Invite the bot**

Choose the server and review the permissions Discord requests before confirming.

**2. Check access and roles**

Verify channel permissions and move the bot role above the roles it will manage.

**3. Test basic commands**

Run `.help` and `.ping` in a channel Headless can view.

**4. Use the server prefix**

Check it with `.prefix`, and if you have `Administrator`, change it with `.prefix set !` or `/prefix new_prefix:!`.
